Barden Sports & Social Club raise over £800 for local charities
A raffle was held by Plymouth- ball bearing manufacturer, The Barden Corporation, at their Christmas Dinner & Dance evening. The event is held annually during the festive season for employees and their guests, this year raising £405. That figure was matched by the company resulting in a total of £810 for the chosen charities Macmillan Cancer Support and Plymouth-based St Luke’s Hospice.
Both Macmillan and St Luke’s Hospice provide crucial support and care for those suffering through difficult conditions, and their family members. Sian Ward-Edwards, Fundraising Manger for Macmillan said; “We are really grateful for the continued support of The Barden Corporation as we rely on donations to help the growing number of people affected by cancer. Over time the team at Barden have raised £1,057.84 for Macmillan which will help pay for local services such as the Mustard Tree Cancer Support Centre at Derriford.”
Nicola Keen from St Luke’s Hospice added; “Our vision is a community where no person has to die alone in pain or distress and with your help we can achieve this. St Luke's Hospice Plymouth needs to raise £4.5 million pounds each and every year to maintain the services that we deliver. We are delighted that The Barden Corporation Ltd have supported us since 1992 and the staff have raised £13,679.08 over this time, which is fantastic. Without companies like The Barden Corporation Ltd supporting a local charity we simply would not be here. St Luke's has been in your community for 35 years this year and we care for you no matter where.”
Jon Everett, Managing Director at Barden, also added; “I’m delighted that we continue to raise money for St Luke’s and MacMillan and am proud of the charitable work done by our Sports and Social Club. Going forward our aim is to increase our contributions to these worthwhile causes, as these two charities provide significant care and support to the local community.”
Representatives of The Barden Corporation’s Sports & Social Club, Julie Stanton and Rose Spiers, worked tirelessly to organise the event and said; “The evening was great success and we would like to thank not only the Barden employees for attending the event but also the suppliers for their continuous donations to the Sports and Social club raffle. We are glad to do our bit to help out such worthwhile causes.”
Prizes for the raffle were donated by local companies. They included The New Continental Hotel, which donated a years’ family leisure membership worth £350.
