01-11-2013 | BARDEN CORPORATION | PLYMOUTH, UK
The Barden Corporation has received a much acclaimed 'platinum' award from the Business Health Network for encouraging a healthy lifestyle and wellbeing at work.
In addition, the 'Health at Work' awards saw nine companies from the Plymouth area compete in the Pedometer Challenge. This saw Barden receive an award given to the company where employees travelled the most equivalent miles across the world!
The six week workplace Pedometer Challenge, held over the summer months, encouraged employees to consider becoming more active. On average, 44 employees participated regularly by increasing activity levels both in and out of the workplace. Over the course of the challenge, these employees walked a total of almost 21,000 miles, the equivalent of Plymouth, UK, to Italy, taking in San Francisco, Costa Rica, Bolivia and Iran on the way.
Additionally a six week weight loss challenge saw ten employees losing a total of more than five stone in weight.
The platinum award for Health & Wellbeing at Work is awarded to Barden's Jane Hannaford, Occupational Health Nurse, and Nicky Morrish, HR Manager, by Dr Steve Boorman from the Department of Health
