Super precision bearings manufacturer The Barden Corporation (UK) Ltd has reached the final stages of the South West's premier business award scheme, The Devon & Cornwall Business Challenge.
The Challenge, set up twenty years ago to recognise excellence in business achievement, innovation and success across the South West region, covers four categories; The Corporate Social Responsibility Award, The International Trade Award, The Communications Award and The Business Excellence Award.
As a finalist in The Business Excellence category, Barden will be going head-to-head with Pall (Newquay) Ltd and Axminster Power Tools. The award is sponsored by audit, tax and advisory services provider KPMG, and a consortium of the sponsors - KPMG, TwoFour, Bond Pearce LLP and RBS - will be judging the final presentations before the winner is announced in October.
Standards are expected to be tough in the Business Excellence category, as Ian Brokenshire, Senior Partner at KPMG's Plymouth office explains: "With this award we want to find a market leading business with sound leadership and management, enviable financial results, strong processes and delighted customers. To be in with a chance of winning the award, businesses must demonstrate that they have high ambitions, and are continuously looking to improve business processes and practices, performance, customer service, product development or profitability".
Managing Director at Barden, Dr Graham Stirling, said: "The standard will undoubtedly be high for this award and we are up against some tough competition. We are all proud of getting this far as just making the final of these prestigious awards is a huge achievement in itself. It demonstrates that there are still success stories to be told and celebrated, even in such an uncertain climate for the manufacturing industry."
He continued: "Barden has seen over a decade of continued growth and is a world-leader in the bearing market. A key component for success is having the right products, diverse market sectors and a global customer-base. Our over-riding business principle is to continuously re-invent ourselves, bringing new products and solutions to market and striving at all times to exceed customer expectations. We are customer focussed and customer driven. We have adopted world-class manufacturing practices with a continuous improvement culture throughout the business, every individual playing their part."
"Our achievements are due to the excellent team we've built up over the years. Getting so far in The Business Challenge is really a direct result of the dedication and hard work our employees have put in to make Barden so successful."
An awards ceremony is to be held on October 9th where the winners of The Business Challenge Awards will be announced.
