Schaeffler subsidiary, The Barden Corporation (UK) Ltd. celebrated its 50th Anniversary of manufacturing in Plymouth, UK by holding a Family Festival at the plant on Saturday 9th September 2017.
PLYMOUTH UK, September 12, 2017. Ball bearing manufacturer The Barden Corporation (UK) Ltd. hosted a Family Festival for employees and their families to thank them for their contribution towards half a century of business success.
The event was held on Saturday 9th September 2017 at Barden’s production plant in Estover, Plymouth, where a total of 569 guests came together to celebrate their achievements. The site was transformed to provide a summer festival atmosphere, complete with a stage area that hosted five local bands and performers – two of whom included Barden employees.
As well as a number of family fun events that included fairground stalls, face painting, a climbing wall, bouncy castles, Punch & Judy shows and Rodeo bull ride, there were a series of challenges and entertainment for the adults, which included a charity “gunge tank”, where guests were invited to pay £1 to see their favourite Barden senior managers soaked in gunge. A raffle was organised by Barden employees Julie Stanton and Rose Spiers, proceeds from which, along with the gunge tank challenge, raised just over £900 for two very worthwhile charities, Macmillan Cancer Support and Plymouth-based St. Luke’s Hospice.
The event began at 10am with an official opening by Johnny Mercer, Member of Parliament (MP) for Plymouth Moor View, best selling author and a long-standing member of the Parliamentary Defence Committee. He stated in his opening speech: “Celebrating 50 years of manufacturing bearings in Plymouth is an outstanding achievement for the company, particularly given the challenging global environment facing British manufacturers today. Barden and its employees should feel very proud of their achievements and of the significant contribution their company has made, and is making, to our local economy and to UK manufacturing. With the city of Plymouth having such a rich military history and the work Barden does supporting the UK aerospace and defence industry, it is clearly evident why Barden has had such a successful 50 years in Plymouth.”
In his speech to guests on the day, Jon Everett, Managing Director at Barden UK, commented: “I would like to extend my thanks to all who have helped organise and support this event and to the phenomenal employees, both past and present, who have supported and built the Barden Corporation to the successful organisation it is today – a key part of Schaeffler’s current and future aerospace capability.”
